Acryl, gelnagels 
| | Elke vrouw vindt acryl of gelnagels wel iets moois hebben. Een mooie french manicure bijvoorbeeld. Het heeft een chique uitstraling en het maakt je hand net eventjes af. Toch wil niet iedereen kunstnagels, maar waarom niet? Zou dit komen omdat ze niet precies weten wat het inhoudt en omdat het toch best prijzig is? En wat is nu eigenlijk het verschil tussen gelnagels en acrylnagels? En hoe zit het met de nabehandeling van beide soorten nagels?
Gel en Acryl nagels
In dit artikel bespreken we de verschillen tussen Gel en Arcyl nagels en hoe een nagelstyliste te werk gaat bij het zetten van Gel en Arcyl nagels.
Alvorens in te gaan op de verschillen tussen Gel en Arcyl nagels eerst wat achtergrond informatie over nagels.
Nagels groeien 0,1mm per dag en de nagelplaat bestaat uit drie lagen: de hoornlaag , de keratinelaag en de ephiteellaag . De nagel heeft een functie, namelijk die van het beschermen van de zenuwuiteinden in de vingertoppen. Lang, lang geleden stelde nagels de mens in staat om wortels, knollen en aardappels uit de grond te graven. Tegenwoordig hebben we daar gelukkig machines en supermarkten voor en liggen die tijden ver achter ons. Anno 2009 laten we nagels niet meer groeien om praktische reden maar omdat het vrouwelijk en aantrekkelijk is. En die mooie vrouwelijke nagels, dat is toch wel waar we ons in dit artikel op willen concentreren. Als nagels zwak of breekbaar zijn worden kunstnagels over de bestaande nagels gezet. Doorgaans zijn dit Gel of Acryl nagels, maar er zijn ook andere, echter minder vaak toegepaste kunstnagel, bijvoorbeeld fiberglasnagels. We beperken ons tot de meeste voorkomende soorten kunstnagels, die van Gel en Acryl.
Acrylnagels
De toepassing van acrylnagels is hetzelfde als die van gelnagels, namelijk het verstevigen en verlengen van de nagels. De acryl is een mengsel van poeder en vloeistof welke hechten tot een kneedbaar bolletjes. Dit acryl bolletje wordt met een penseel op de nagel in de juiste vorm geboetseerd en hard door de blootstelling aan de buitenlucht vanzelf uit. De acryl poeders worden geleverd in verschillende kleuren. Acryl nagels zijn dankzij de stevige, sterke structuur zeer geschikt voor het creëren van mooie dunne nagels.
Gelnagels
Gelnagels worden toegepast voor het verstevigen en het verlengen van de nagels. Bij het verstevigen van de nagels wordt de gel alleen aangebracht op de nagels, bij het verlengen van de nagels wordt gebruik gemaakt van tips. Tips zijn verlengstukjes van plastic. De gel is een stroperige substantie welke pas hard wordt onder UV licht. Het voordeel is hiervan is dat de nagels makkelijk gemodelleerd kunnen worden totdat deze onder de speciale UV lamp worden gehouden. De gel is geurloos (in tegen stelling tot acryl) en is (meestal) hypoallergeen.
